Faces have always fascinated me. I remember drawing (aged about 14) four of my teachers at school and then losing the piece of paper. To my horror one day my English teacher (who was one of the people I’d drawn) held up the sheet in front of the class and asked whether it belonged to anyone. At the time I wished the ground would open up and engulf me but, in fact, I think she was probably quite flattered!
I love the challenge of capturing a likeness (which can be elusive at times). Soft pastels are my favourite medium for portraits although I’ve also used oil pastels, as in this painting of my husband.
